Medeski, Martin and Wood

The power jazz/funk trio of John Medeski, Billy Martin and Chris Wood take special pride in their adaptability.  Te can hone their sound in a dozen different directions, and sometimes will do so in the space of one song.  Fierce improvisational skills are another hallmark of the band, with each player enough of a master of his craft to take the lead and hold it, off the cuff and outside the box for as long as willing.  Entire shows can be comprised of jams that ebb and flow between the musicians, and the communication between them borders on telepathic.  At the 2011 edition of the Bear Creek Music Festival, Mr. Pee Wee Ellis joined the boys for a memorable jam session.  Let’s watch!

Zach Deputy

That Zach Deputy is a man who can do it all is without question.  Whether he is sitting behind a specially designed array of drum machines, music looping gear and foot pedals and microphones galore or simply standing up and fronting his own band, Deputy commands the full focus of all within earshot.  The Florida native has found his mix of sunshine-y reggae, guitar based jams and soulful odes to not only be welcome across the world, but has found himself as one of the most in demand guests on any stage.  His mix of jovial good nature and fiery guitar prowess makes his performances deceptive in nature, as you are sucked in by his charm and blown away by his skill.

The Heavy Pets are facing their usual busy summer of festivals and touring.  Though they have had numerous line up permutations over their existence, of late the quintet has settled into a stable and harmonious whole, and their rise in profile and popularity has been a direct result.  Fresh from gigs at Bonnaroo and Jam Cruise, the Pets performed earlier this year at the Aura Music Festival.  Enjoy!
